Residential set to play bigger role in Canary Wharf’s future

The news comes just over a year after the group launched its first BTR buildings under its dedicated Vertus brand.

The pandemic has changed a lot since then, with people working from home en masse and major office tenants including Barclays and Credit Suisse considering downscaling their office footprint.

So how big a part could residential play in Canary Wharf’s future?

Vertus managing director Alastair Mullens says lettings got off to a “bumper start” last year but were inevitably hit by Covid. Occupancy of the two live BTR schemes – 10 George Street (pictured) and 8 Water Street – stands at 45% of 501 apartments occupied.
