U.K. House Prices Rose 2.6% in April

The early impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the U.K. housing market has been detailed in the newly returned house price index from the government’s Land Registry, released Wednesday.

U.K. property prices increased 2.6% in the year to April, a slight decline from the annual growth of 3.5% recorded in March, and leaving the average property price at £234,612 (US$308,752).

Between March and April, transactions decreased by 55.5%.

The latest house price index is the first released since May, when the report was suspended due to the virus’s effect on the reporting of the data, according to the report.
